Embracing Sound Healing as Part of Your New Year’s Resolutions

The Invisible Load Women Carry

It’s easy to compare ourselves to others and wonder why we can’t “do it all.” But what we often fail to see—both in ourselves and in each other—is the invisible load women carry every day.

Whether you’re:

  • A single, driven woman building a career and managing a social life

  • A stay-at-home mom carrying the full weight of daily logistics, meals, appointments, and education

  • A working mom spinning what feels like a hundred plates

…the demands add up.

We easily recognize the visible responsibilities: work, children, relationships, and keeping a household running. Those are expected. What we underestimate is the weight of the invisible ones.

Meal planning—three times a day.
Making sure everyone has what they need before they walk out the door.
Tracking school requirements, appointments, schedules, laundry, groceries, fuel in the car.
Managing not only your own emotional and hormonal needs, but anticipating and regulating the emotions of those around you.

Add in chauffeuring, healthcare decisions, balancing work (inside or outside the home), and trying to care for your own health—and suddenly, the load becomes enormous.

These invisible burdens sit quietly on our shoulders, and over time, they can overwhelm the nervous system.

What Chronic Stress Does to the Nervous System

Chronic stress doesn’t just wear you down emotionally or physically—it directly impacts your nervous system.

When stress becomes constant, your body shifts into fight-or-flight mode (the sympathetic nervous system). In this state:

  • Cortisol and adrenaline stay elevated

  • Rest-and-digest functions are suppressed

  • Sleep becomes lighter and less restorative

  • Digestion and energy production decline

Over time, chronic stress also affects the brain itself. The amygdala (the emotional alarm center) becomes more reactive, while the hippocampus (responsible for memory and learning) can shrink. This changes how you think, react, remember, and process emotions.

Chronic stress is also linked to increased inflammation, reduced emotional regulation, heightened anxiety and depression, cognitive impairment, and that persistent brain fog so many women experience.

That fog isn’t imagined.
It’s your body asking for help and saying, “This isn’t sustainable.”

Why “Just Rest More” Isn’t Always Enough

Our instinctive solution is often, “I just need more sleep.” And while rest is essential, it doesn’t always bring relief when the nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight.

When stress hormones remain elevated, the body struggles to shift into the parasympathetic (rest-and-restore) state—even when you lie down. You may spend eight hours in bed and still wake up exhausted because your system never truly powered down.

This keeps us locked in mental overdrive, physical tension, and often guilt—fueled by a hustle-culture mindset that tells us we should be able to do more.

But again: you are not broken.
This is a pattern—and patterns can be changed.

Restoring the Nervous System Through Sound Healing

Instead of focusing on removing every burden from your plate (many of which are meaningful and beautiful), the key is learning how to reset your nervous system.

One of the most effective ways I’ve seen to do this is through sound healing.

During a sound bath, the high-frequency vibrations of crystal singing bowls gently guide the nervous system into a parasympathetic state. This allows the body to rest, regulate, and reset—often more deeply than sleep alone.

A 60- or 90-minute sound bath can leave you feeling more restored and energized than a restless night in bed. And incorporating sound healing doesn’t have to mean attending an event every week.

It might look like:

  • Listening to a short sound bath recording for five minutes a few times a week

  • Pairing sound with gentle breathwork

  • Practicing mindful presence during moments of rest

We’ll explore other nervous-system tools like breathwork and mindfulness in future posts. For now, my invitation is simple.

Your Invitation This Week

You don’t need to push harder.
You don’t need to fix yourself.
You don’t need to carry the weight alone.

This week, I invite you to experience rest.

Explore sound healing—whether through a private session with me, a recording on my website, or another trusted source. Notice how your body responds when it’s given permission to slow down.

Your challenge is simply this:
Explore what sound healing can do to help restore your nervous system so you can live from a place of intention—not exhaustion.

You are not broken.
Your body is wise.
And rest is not a reward—it’s a requirement.

As the calendar turns to a fresh year, there’s something magical about the promise of new beginnings.

Many of us take this time to set goals, create resolutions, and envision a version of ourselves that feels more aligned with who we truly want to be. This year, I want to share a practice that has been transformative for me: sound healing. It’s more than just a resolution—it’s a pathway to deeper connection, balance, and peace.

Why Resolutions Often Feel Heavy

Let’s be honest: New Year’s resolutions can feel like an overwhelming to-do list. They’re often focused on what we need to fix about ourselves—lose weight, be more productive, quit bad habits. While there’s nothing wrong with striving for improvement, this approach can leave us feeling burdened rather than inspired. What if, instead, we focused on practices that nurture us? Practices that bring joy and healing to our journey rather than piling on pressure?

That’s where sound healing comes in.

The Gentle Power of Sound Healing

Sound healing is an ancient practice that uses vibrations—often from instruments like crystal bowls, gongs, or chimes—to bring the body, mind, and spirit into harmony. It’s not about achieving something tangible or crossing a goal off a list; it’s about creating space for yourself to simply be.

When I first attended a sound bath, I didn’t know what to expect. I’d heard words like “relaxing” and “rejuvenating,” but I wasn’t prepared for the profound sense of calm that washed over me. For those moments, the constant chatter in my mind quieted, and I felt deeply at ease—as if I’d come home to myself. As a Certified Sound Healer myself, I continue to see amazing benefits every time I play the bowls or attend a Sound bath.

How Sound Healing Can Support Your Intentions

Whether your resolutions are about improving physical health, cultivating mindfulness, or simply slowing down in a busy world, sound healing can provide the foundation you need. Here’s how:

  • Reducing Stress: Stress can derail even the best intentions. The soothing vibrations of sound healing help calm the nervous system, making it easier to approach your goals with clarity and focus.
  • Fostering Mindfulness: Many of us resolve to be more present, but mindfulness can feel elusive when life gets hectic. Sound healing creates a gentle gateway to presence, inviting you to tune into the moment without effort.
  • Promoting Rest: Sleep is often undervalued but essential for achieving any resolution. Sound baths can help reset your sleep patterns, allowing your body and mind the rest they need to thrive.
  • Encouraging Self-Compassion: Instead of berating yourself for falling short, sound healing teaches you to embrace where you are. It’s a reminder that growth is a process, not a destination.

Simple Ways to Incorporate Sound Healing

You don’t need to attend a formal session to experience the benefits of sound healing—although I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity! Here are a few ways you can start incorporating sound into your daily life:

  1. Start with a Sound Meditation: Look for guided sound meditations online. Even five minutes with a singing bowl track can make a difference.
  2. Create a Morning Ritual: Begin your day with soothing sounds, whether it’s gentle music or the hum of a tuning fork.
  3. Invest in Simple Tools: A small chime or singing bowl can be a lovely addition to your space. Use it to mark transitions in your day, like moving from work to relaxation.
  4. Join me at a Local Sound Bath: There’s something deeply special about experiencing the vibrations in a shared space. I currently host monthly Sund Baths in Monroe Washington and am looking to expand similar monthly or bi-weekly events in other communities in 2025

A Resolution That Feels Like Home

As you consider your goals for the year ahead, I invite you to think about resolutions not as tasks to accomplish, but as gifts to yourself. Sound healing isn’t just about relaxation; it’s about coming back to your center, finding balance, and creating a life that feels authentic and nourishing.

This year, let’s resolve to care for ourselves in ways that feel good, not forced. Let’s lean into practices that inspire us and remind us of our wholeness. For me, sound healing is one of those practices, and I hope it becomes one for you too.

Here’s to a year of harmony, intention, and connection.
